Take3: the three instruments of guitar, keyboards and double/electric bass. Formed in June 2004 to explore the musical possibilities afforded by its all-string instrumentation, Take3 strives for unshakeable groove in songs, during improvisation and whilst exploring and affirming new harmonic and rhythmic terrain.

Each of the players holds a love for jazz – consequently songs with lush, hip or unusual harmonies figure prominently in the trio’s songbook – but the idiom’s stylistic characteristics are Take3’s inspiration, not its shackles. The band delights in playing tunes that are infectiously ear-catching to listeners, yet also challenging, satisfying and fun to play.

Standards by the master tunesmiths of the popular song form such as Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Neil Hefti, Richard Rogers and Jerome Kern, Latin American bossa novas by Antonio Carlos Jobim, modal tunes and blues by Miles Davis, Burt Bacharach classics as well as Pat Metheny compositions feature in the trio’s songbook.
